UAE: Reading Competition to Start from January

United Arab’s most famous reading competition will kick starting From January and stretch till April ends. This year, the contest is not only limited to primary schoolers but there’s even space for preschoolers.
The greatest programme of its kind in the country, the sub-Arab reading challenge was introduced by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and King of Dubai, in 2015. Every edition’s champion receives a prize money of Dh1 million. When MAKTABA, the Library Management division of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, instigates the most recent version of the Creative Reader Competition, kids throughout the UAE will be inspired to grab a book and go through them as much as they wish for. The Creative Reader Competition has encouraged kids and adolescents to read about a wide variety of themes for nearly ten years, according to Shaikha Mohammed Al Muhairi, director of the library management department at DCT Abu Dhabi. The contest continues to draw new competitors and contributes significantly to the creation of an informed and culturally based community. Given the addition of kindergarten pupils to the contest this year as well as students from Cycles 1 and 2, we anticipate seeing more participation in this year.
Significance of the Competition
The goal of the competition is to improve Arab youngsters’ educational status, increase their reading comprehension, and foster the growth of individual-learning, consciousness, and critical and innovative thinking skills. The goal of the tournament is to strengthen the young-Arab generation’s capacity to create successful futures for both themselves and their nations.
How to Participate?
Individuals from all over the nation are welcome to enter the contest. To participate, one must first become a member of MAKTABA, the library management branch of DCT Abu Dhabi, register on the MAKTABA website, and successfully complete a live or recorded evaluation interview. Participants are required to complete the contest form, study as many books as they can, and submit it by the deadline. A special brochure with all the competition information is accessible through educational institutions, public libraries, or the DTC website. Competitors can find books from the MAKTABA digital collection as well as from any of the MAKTABA physical stores in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, there is an option to join online reading groups.
Judgement Panel
The reading comprehension level, the quantity of books taken from public libraries, the proportion of booklet finish, as well as lingual, rigorous assessment, and creative thinking abilities will all be taken into consideration by the judging panel, which consists of authors, teachers, and scholars.
The last iteration of the Creative Reader Competition captivated in 627 competitors, comprising People of Commitment, from all seven emirates, an increase of more than 111 percent year over year that reflected the increased interest of young people in reading for leisure and cultural advancement.
