On Tuesday, June 4, first phase of the world’s largest energy plant in Warsan to make renewable energy from waste was inaugurated by the crown prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed which is worth Dh4 Billion.

Prince Sheikh Hamdan also explained how this remarkable project is the first step and can influence Dubai’s status as a leading global country with a legitimate infrastructure facility while diverting waste from landfills by 2,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually is an effective method of mitigating climate change. He wrote on Twitter, “The facility is capable of generating 220 megawatt-hours of renewable energy, which can power 135,000 residential units.”

Further, the prince added, “The facility can process 2 million tonnes of waste per year without any adverse environmental impact. We congratulate the exceptional teams involved in this unique project. We are committed to deploying advanced technologies to build a brighter and more sustainable future.”

Two lines from the five-lined energy plant are already involved in the operation, and processing about 2,300 tonnes of solid waste on a daily basis. The well-structured project generates steam pressure while generating energy. In a rational format, the steam pressure again provides the power to the main plant to re-create the energy. At present time the power plant is generating 80 MWh of energy which is truly renewable. After a full fedge operation of the energy plant, it will increase the output to an expandable level with 220 MWh, and 2580 MWh daily.

This plan will help to create fresh and pure energy for Dubai’s energy source. The facility will convert daily waste into energy caused by almost 3 million people. For the power-generating turbine to generate the required power to process the wastes it uses water to generate power steam using recycled water sources.

To run a smart, environmentally friendly and sustainable solid waste collection system, the waste collection centre of Wrsan supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 objective. It will help to drive more than 75% of the required energy from clean sources by 2050. As a result, Dubai City will be recognised as a green economy hub with a global clean energy source by 2050.

The announcement by Prince Sheikh Hamdan Came into the light just one day after the announcement of an investment of up to Dh200 million in a renewable energy farm.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “Our goal will be to triple the contribution of renewable energy in the coming seven years and inject national investments ranging from Dh150 to Dh200 billion during the same period to meet the increasing demand for energy in the country due to the accelerated economic growth” during the latest cabinet meeting in Dubai.

He also added, “We also approved our national strategy for hydrogen, which has recently emerged as one of the most important clean energy sources.”

The construction process started in 2021. The vision of the project is to set an example of the Emirates as a global model for a sustainable development structure and reclaim it as the best city to work and live in the world. The project started with the guidance of Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister, Vice-President of UAE and the Ruler of Dubai.

The project is structured and planned in a way to get completed by 2024.

With the rapidly increasing rate of the population of Dubai and a surge in economic activities, the project will reduce and minimise the waste count significantly in the landfills. It will also regenerate and recreate alternative energy sources for the country. This will result in a cleaner environment and a more sustainable future. It will also create more job opportunities and increase the country’s economic growth. Finally, the project will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote a healthier lifestyle.
