Last Monday, July 3, may have hit so hard the residents as most of them have returned to their daily schedule after a long six days of holiday during Eid Al Adha in UAE. The holiday at the end of last month, Zul Hijjah, fell according to the Islamic Hijri Calendar.

The UAE residents soon going to witness another long weekend during the Islamic New Year, which is also known as the Hijri New Year is just a few days away. In Islam, the Hijri New Year marks the start of a new Lunar Year. Previously, according to predictive tentative dates by astronomers, it was supposed to fall on July 19, Wednesday.

Although the public holiday list shared by the UAE Government mentioned the Islamic New Year holiday on Friday, July 21, 2023. This will bring a 3 days long weekend for all the residents of the United Arab Emirates just before the end of the current month. The Public Holiday list has been shared in November 2022 with all the upcoming holidays that are going to fall during 2023.

The beginning of the new Lunar Calendar plays a significant role in the Islamic region, which is also a main event for them. Some of them consider it as the first day of the month of Muharram. The day appears on a different day each year according to the Georgian calendar. The lunar days get shorter every single year by 11 days approximately compared to the solar year. All the events in Islamic Calendar follow the lunar cycle.

In the Islamic region, the significance of this day, the Hijri, also has a historical backstory where they celebrate and pay tribute to the Prophet Muhammed and his followers for their journey or Hijra from Macca to Madina in the year 622

The fourth and last long weekend of this year, in UAE, is going to fall during the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammed on September 29, 2023. 

The National Day in UAE is on December 2 & 3, which is a Saturday and Sunday.

Tentative Dates for Ramadan, Eid 2024

Al Jarwan also has shared some predictive dates for the major events in 2024, including the holy Ramadan Month, Eid Ul Fitr, and Eid Al Adha, which are the most awaited public holidays in the United Arab Emirates.

The Islamic calendar events are influenced by moon sightings, hence dates may get changed depending on the spotted moon crescents. Based on the astronomical predictions here are the tentative dates:

  • Ramadan month is expected to start by 11th March Monday, 2024.
  • The Eid Ul Fitr is likely to fall after a count of 30 days of Ramadan, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
  • Eid Al Adha is expected to be on June 17, Monday, 2024.
